Closed call: In search of new knowledge on CCS in the Nordic countries

The Top-Level Research Initiative’s sub-program “CO2 Capture and Storage” has launched an announcement of two feasibility studies in order to get an overview of potentials within CCS in the Nordic Region. The aim of the studies is to define possible CCS solutions suitable for realization and to look at the R&D challenges.

The existing mapping/studies shall form the basis for the studies and if necessary missing information shall be obtained in order to get the full overview. A Nordic actor (consultant, company, organization, university) can carry out the studies; co-operation between at least three Nordic countries is required.

The first study, "Nordic CCS Potential (emissions, infrastructure, storage)”, aims at gaining an overview of potentials for CCS in the Nordic Region. The study shall include mapping of CO2 emissions in the Nordic countries from major sources, mapping and quantification of geological and mineralogical storage possibilities as well as scenario of what infrastructure in the short and long term will be needed in the region.

The aim of the second study, "CCS and Renewable Energy", is to evaluate the potentials for CCS within the renewable energy based on non-fossil fuel, as well as fuel from biomass, or geothermic sources. The study shall include a time perspective and comments on the phasing in of renewable energy and the development of fossil energy, seen in connection. Creative proposals around viable mechanisms for the realization of CCS in energy production development from renewable sources shall be described in the study.

The deadline for the proposals is 3rd of February 2010. The mid-term results of the studies are expected in mid-May 2010 and the final report is to be published by the end of August 2010. The price range for the studies is max. 1 to 1,5 MNOK.
